We all started some where! Mine was a free 16' lapstrake, was never sure of the make, but all the laps were through-bolted with machine screws. Had a 45hp Sears(Scott-Atwater) outboard. What a piece of junk(the boat not the engine), but we went all over Narragansett Bay in that thing. The things we did while the parents were at work! |

12 ft. Grants aluminum.7.5 Elgin or 1947 3.6 Merc. I will always remember going to get it, I saved paper route money and my father took me to buy. This was how I learned about sales tax;I didn't have enough for the tax. My father gave me the rest to buy the boat and to this day I think about the lesson he taught me: Don't forget about the tax! |

| Mine was a 12`cat boat, which was a sailboat. Never sailed it though, used a couple of 1x4`s as paddles. I`ve had numerous boats over the years, and now have a 32` sedan bridge, THE LADY J. |

My first boat and bicycle were about the same time, I like to think I had a boat first. Over the years there have been a lot of boats that I have had extended use of (I ran a small boat yard)as well as ones I owned directly. The list is:
8' pram with my Dad's British SeaGull (not a babe magnet) 8' flat bottom I built from Popular Science plans with a 7.5 Elgin (Sears & Rowback) 15' plywood runabout with 1954 25 Evinrude 13' Whaler w/ 40 Evinrude 16' '72 Whaler w/ 70 Johnson, then new 100 Johnson every year, remember the boat yard. My brother owns the boat yard now and this boat is still there with a new motor every year. 15' Lyman w/40 Johnson. This is one boat I wish I kept. I restored and used it, then sold it to buy a snowmobile, wrecked the snowmobile and broke my back. 23' Robalo center console w/ 135 Johnson, the boat yard again. 19' KenCraft w/ 85 Johnson, the boat yard again 15' Whaler w/ 50 Yamaha 17' Whaler Newport w/ 90 Johnson, still have this one 13' Whaler w/ 25 Johnson, still have this one 32' '69 Luhrs 32' '72 Pacemaker Sedan Bridge, sold her last September 38' '79 Chris Craft Corinthian new to me last September
The Chris is the current "Sugar Shack", the 13 Whaler is "Sap Bucket" and the 17 Whaler is "Sap Bucket II". I know them as the Bucket and Big Bucket.
