Excess manifold noise

Excess manifold noise
  • rstylesrstyles Feb. 20

I recently replaced the a riser and log type exhaust manifold on my 1988 Crusader model 350 454. There is excessive noise coming from the manifold. No other problems. Could this be trapped air in the manifold, and how would I fix it?

What kind of noise is it? Does it change with engine speed?
Is the noise from the manifold or from the head (valves/rockers) or from the internal engine? If you somehow got liquid into a cylinder during the swap and didn't get it out before starting the engine you could have bent some engine components and that is what is making the noise.

  • I'm with Rich on this one, assuming it is a mechanical noise and not a dry exhaust leak. Any chance one of the exhaust port gaskets slipped as you were putting her back together?
