New Piolot house flooring project
-
Well I have all the carpet pulled up in the pilot house and have uninstalled my pilot helm bench seat. The original nautilex has come up to reveal a layer of original fiberglass in polyester resin. the entire floor will be sanded and a new teak and holly sole will go in.....pictures to follow soon.
this is the look I am shooting for, clean and traditional with lots of gloss

That will be a transforming project. I have always loved the look.

Beautiful!

That is sharp looking, what are you useing for decking?

So contrary to popular belief it is the cabin top that holds the floor down rather than the floor supporting the structure above. I just knew gravity wasn't all it was hyped to be. Won't be long now before this round earth idea is debunked.
The floor really looks great.

My helper wants to treat the flooring with west system for protection before we coat it with UV filtered urathane, but I am concerned with how the epoxy treatment will hold up in uv? anyone have experience? I wouldn't want it to cloud

I did the same thing in my old Egg in the Salon and below. The sanding of the WEST system will make a horrible dusting. But it seals it really well. I would use the 207 tropic hardner when you apply it. That stuff has a little better endurance than 105 or 106 for clouding. I have started using AWLSPAR varnish on all my bright work. It seems to have more solids than Captain's varnish from Z Spar. It flows easier than Z Spar and acts like Captain's did 20 years ago before they started messing with the formula. The 1st year I would be hyper vigilant with monitoring wear on the decks. If I remember your boat is shed kept anyway. But I would be put a minimum of 3 coats to start with to seal it with the varnish over the WEST. The epoxy is still tender to dropping of heavy objects and will compromise the finish if you are not careful.
I would also consider some sort of interlocking matting to keep in the traffic areas for wear and non skid applications. That stuff is slippery when it gets wet. -
This is with three coats of west system clear with UV filters...after three coats of this and sanding, the polyurathane coats will go on[IMG]

Did I miss it or aren't you going to give us a source or two and what it costs?
