Parallel toggle switch on dash.
-
I have a 1973 40' flush deck motor yacht. Can somebody tell me the proper way to use the parallel battery control toggle switch on the dash that reads P, Batt, S. The switch normally stays in the straight up position. How will it control starting and charging. When should it be used, ect.
Thanks,
Ed -
The battery parallel switch should be connected to a solenoid by the batteries. The purpose of this switch and solenoid is to connect the batteries for emergency starting. For example if your battery switch was set to number 1 starting battery and you went to start the engines in a hurry only to find the number 1 batt was dead you can use the parallel switch to combine the batteries to be able to start the engines. If the switch remains in the center (or disconnected) position it should not have an effect on charging.

I have a similar Pacemaker. If the left battery is low and will not start the port engine I flip the parallel switch to right and through the solonoid it kicks in the starbord engine battery. Now hold the parallel switch to the right and at the same time turn over the port engine. It then will turn over an hopefully start for you.
Take care
Brian
