Guess-timate of value?71 Alglas 38 SF/ More info 1/21/2012, In your Humble opinion? Now asking $10k

    Hi All,
I'm looking at a very clean diesel powered Alglass 38 SF, 800 hrs on 6V53's, decent electronics, Gps, Radar,Genset,Radios etc. Boat runs well and appears to be mechanically sound. Interior is clean but needs some updating. Any idea what this vessel might be worth? Exterior is very clean. Hull is also sound.
I'm trying to get an idea before spending the money for a haul out and complete survey. I know the asking price but I'm holding that back so i don't skew any opinions I might get. I totally understand the info i provided is limited. Just looking for some "IMHO" type valuations. Also being this old will Insurance be tough to come by?

Thanks and it's good to be back on this Forum,
    Rory

  • In the current market I will say the range is $13,000-$30,000 but for $30K you had better love it.

  • No higher than 15K. In this market he should accept that.

Hi, Not sure if you saw the file, it may not have mentioned it but he has dropped his price to $10k due to his unemployment and having to move. plus he'll have about a $650 slip fee due in about 10 dfats.

My bad , i cut the subject line off the file I posted, he is asking $10k cash as of today!

  • If you want that boat, and only that boat then pursue it. But.....There are so many more boats out there with the same situation. I am an Egg Harbor 37 wood fan. There are 3 right now that can be bought for around 5K. All with fresh engines and 2 were shed kept since their birth.
The market is so devestated right now, that the deals are endless! 2 Things I would think about..
1, Once you buy this boat you have bought her.
2,Survey. Never ever buy without a survey and sea trial.

    Good Luck.

Thx, I'm honestly more interested in a Grand Banks and open to at least looking and researching any boat that might be the one that I've never been on or know much about without investing time and reaching out to those who know more than me. No doubt about surveys and sea trails!
I'll be looking at a Richardson Woodie next week as well. When it's all said and done I want a boat but don't need one and it'd be nice to be able to afford to use the boat vs. just sitting on it tied to the docks. Always appreciate the input!

  • and remember, when you are not using it and its just tied to the docks , it is still costing, in dockage, electricity and maintenance

  • You have come to the right place. You will always find a sympatheic ear when it comes to boats. It is a mutant gene involved owning a boat. An even stronger strain involving wood boats.
But there is so much fun in just looking. That perverted pleasure you get when the owner really wants to sell you the boat. That feeling of power in knowing that poor bastid needs to sell. Just remember after you purchase you too will be that poor bastid some day.
