28 foot Pacemaker

28 foot Pacemaker
  • paulpaul November 2011

Hi, I am considering a 1974 28 foot Pacemaker. She looks to be in great shape and has about 150 hours on twin Crusaders. Can anyone tell me how the boat rides as it will be a family boat and igf there is anything I should look for before buying. Thanks

Best thing you could do is to have her survayed by a profesional. Then you will know about what may be right or wrong with her. And welcome, from one Paul to another.

Thank you. I do intend to have her surveyed. What I was looking for are the characteristics of the boat. How she rides in differant seas (dry or wet), boat handling etc. Is she good for weekend roadtrips up the coast? I am curious as to her capabilities; likes or dislikes. Thanks again for the welcome Paul

Hi paul, I owned a 1973 Pacemaker 28' Express, with twin CH270 Crusaders from 1980 to 2008. From 1994 to 2008 she was used as my primary towing vessel until I sold the company in 2008. She provided me excellant service in all types of weather. From the summer calms to the fall gales she was a safe and dry vessel. We always cruised at 20 knots regardless of the weather. In rough seas she performed best with the bow down. Also this boat was loaded with alot of toeing and salvage gear. In her early days as our pleasure she was capable of 40 knots @ 4,000 rpm and cruisead at a comfortable 30 knots @ around 3,200 rpm.

All the Pacemaker have great rides, built like a battle axe, ride like a 70s caddy. I have a 1977 31ft Sportfisher, she been through some rough seas and rode like a champion. Like Miss Nancy said, get a good survey. Proper and regular maint and she'll last years.

Thank you for the replies. I am seeing the boat on Saturday. This will be a move from a1989 Boston Whaler Revenge and I am hoping for something more suitable for short overnighters and weekend trips.
