Man I pay so much to get so little.... Help.....

Ok I just paid good money to have my carb redone. Well today was the big lanch day and my motor 318 crysler wouldn't stay running. Mechanic messed with the carb for 2 hours and told me it was the tanks which were flushed prier to doing the carb by another tech.... Anyways after thousands later my boat will not stay running. I have read alot on this forum about fuel filters, water seperaters, tank cleaning, fuel lines, and I just don't know what else it could be... It was running before the carb rebuild just would cut out only giving me have power. So I did see there was a problem just didn't know what. Now it will not even stay running I really am concerned and pissed. What all should I check. When he checked the carb it was full of gas so I know its not the pump. Could it be the settings? Also he said the gas looked like tea backing his my tanks are the problem. I talked with a friend who works on cars to bad he doesn't live here.. He said to unplug the gas line from the carb and fill with a glass jar and check from there to see if he didn't rip me off. I know the floaters not sure about the pins were old. Any help!!!! I have wasted to much time trying to fix this old girl I really want to just ride in her once working before the winter...
Thanks

Sorry to hear about the problems. A few questions/thought from my experience.
Who did your carb? A guy at the yard simply replacing a few gaskets and spraying with a can of cleaner has not been a good solution in my experience. I send my carbs to a carb repair shop and they are properly cleaned and reassembled.
What do you have for fuel filters (I assume they are new)? To get a handle on what is coming out of the tanks empty the filters to see what they has picked up, if anything.
What do you have for fuel lines? If you have any rubber lines were they changed? If not I would change them on general principles. The reason for this is additives (alcohol) in today's fuel deteriorate the rubber from the inside out.
My experience has been when fuel is sitting in rubber lines for a while it will come out dark. When the tanks were flushed did they flush your lines all the way up to the carb? If not the first fuel your engine sees is what ever is/was in those lines. At the beginning of each season on both Sugar Shack and my outboards I flush the lines before I the engines for the first time. You would be suprised what the fuel looks like.
Do you have steel lines anywhere on the engine? A friend was getting all kinds of fine sediment in his carbs, had his carbs rebuilt, installed fresh filters, fired up and immediatley had difficulties. When he opened up the carb inlet filters there were all kinds of fine particles. His fuel filters were clean, he had fresh rubber lines and his tanks were spotless.Turns out the steel lines on the engine between the carbs and fuel pumps were rusting from on the inside out and thus the source of crud.

Another thought is how old is the gas? Did you try disconecting the fuel line and hooking in a seperate tank with fresh gas. If the gas is old then you might be better to pump the tanks dry and start fresh, the crap they call gas today is not worth a damn. If you suspect it is still the carb then take it to someone who knows what they are doing to check it out. There is an outfit on line called carbjunkys who I bought a rebuilt carb from and they are resonable and do good work. Very nice looking boat, don't give up!

Well I am not giving up, this old girl saved my life. Yeah filters are old, lines old, and new toilet I spent money to have installed doesn't flush...lol funny.. Carpet not clued. Tint put on in pieces. Trailer I bought not in bad shape for money with power breaks and drive poles with lights ooooh.. but winch I thought was good is stripped. But yeah I got a good deal he says.. Really wished I would have reseach this dude. Well first owner advice do home work before trying to save a buck on repairs... $6.500 you think it would have new filters and hoses after a carb rebuild but he says thats extra... granted I had the boat redone..
Getting more pissed (sorry ) on this guys work. Ok I got her to run for about a hour strong without cutting out.... Yeah me. And was going to get some fresh gas at the marina I have her docked at.. I took little man with me. He is still scared of water.. god bless him. Well she cut off on me couple times with eazy restart back..And she wanted to feel the waves more then i do... I knew my boat needed fresh gas she ran for couple hours. Pulled to the dock to tie up and started to pump.. Well little man said daddy water, water.. in the boat And to my surprise their was water coming in...=(
He was scared and so was I alittle..
Well being that i'm a new capt. I'm not going to lose her and in the back of my mind I thought thank you god it happening here and not out in the ocean or middle of lake lanier.. Told kids to get out on the dock quick and told the lady my boat is sinking get help "Mayday.. Mayday.. Mayday.." not to make fun...So untied to get her to the slip fast taking in water bad.. looked at dept finder 11.5 feet. thinking I didn't hit nothing.. My pump is pumping out water bad. Need to get her out fast... Start up heading to the slip.. Made my aproach... no trailer ..now i am getting worried.. see kids and the lady on the radio but no trailer oh shoot... So finally trailer lined up and hook up the dang crank is stripped, she is really taking water now. But i'm not giving up I will hold her steady and the guys worked on getting the winch rigged and we get her out... wow what a day... =)
She is saved. She didn't have no damage, seems the packing I paid to have replaced "packed out" leaving a nice size hole for water to enter.. talked with the guys that helped me save her and said that only happens when its done wrong your lucky... So now its time to call ol good buddy.... He says he will have to redo it then if its his fault I said....Nope. Me and my family god forbid could of had it bad out on the lake and if I would have gone out far to get her back in, I would have lost her and with little man already being scared we would of had to swim. When I say she was filling fast i mean to the first step in cabbie in less then 5 mins. So I told him I want some of my money back to have someone else do the work right. He said I under stand I want him not to touch her again. I will spend alittle more to get the job done right my families safety comes first.. And my boats... I said alot more to this grifter... but lets just leave it at that.
She does look alot better but looking good and putting a bandaid isn't what I paid for...
Sad how its hard to find good help these days. Always someone wanting to get paid but don't want to earn it honestly... lucky no real damage inside aswell never got over the engine or wood.. but do i have a mess to clean up.... think its back charge time. water drained out nicely thru the shaft.
So moral of the story have an inspection done after all work...
(sorry for the rant needed to vent.)

Sounds like you had one heck of a day! But all said you did ok from the sounds of it. As a suggestion, check all your thu hull fittings and make sure they have seacocks and that they work. Also check all the hoses that are attached and make sure they are in good shape and double clamped. You have the right attitude, just take your time and you will get there.
