my '78 has beautiful wood work but i am trying to find the stain and finish they may have used to refinsh some of the surfaces.

If you want to refinish the wood, you most likely have to strip it all down and start from scratch if you want it to all be uniform. 30+ years of sun, salt and wear will produce a different color than the original finish.
As far as what was used originally...not really sure but it probably does not exist anymore. I would go with a clear varnish or marine polyurathane and stay away from Cetol.
    Side note:
My favorite stuff to use on exterior teak is Deks Olje. For a while it was unavailable but I was able to find it again this past spring (although at a hefty price).

    hi rich-
thanks-all the wood i need to clean up is inside-i am going to try matching the color with a pre-stained
poly finish using it on a obscure surface for a test.
