repowering choices
-
Have any of you used Doug Russel for engine replacements? I finaly got the engine pulled apart and everything was loaded with metel particals, so rather then take a chance with this block i am thinking of replaceing it. Through your ideas at me guys as I am just about at the end of my rope.
-
Don't know if it is good or not but I am looking at all the options. What did you pay at advance?
-
Case, Yeah, they are up to $2000- now. I found a place in Floida for less including the shipping. I have emailed some of the folk around here who have done buisness with them to get there feed back.
Rich, its a 350 chevy that is part pacer and part crusader.
-
Ok, I am looking at a long block assembly at a place called rapido marine. Its located in Hollywood Florida. Anyone familier with them?
-
I have rebuilt many motors that had metal shavings threw them and if you have it hot tanked it will remove all contaminants from the motor. While they do that they can put new cam bearings in it. This way with new cam and bearings and a major overhaul it will run like new
-
True, But I just had a major overhaul done to the engine and my brother who is a mechanic is saying that I will be better of with a long block. I tend to agree with him and I know for certain that though this way may cost a bit more it will be faster.
-
Not mine and I know it's used, but the price is right:

Rich,
Thank's for the imput. I have decided to go long block and Have ordered it. Hope to have it arrive sometime next week so I can get things reassembaled. -
Well the long block has arrived! Now I just have to get busy swapping parts around.I have Miss Nancy uncovered so I can get the I beam and "trolly" in place to reinstall every thing. Just for your info, I went with an outfit called Rapido Marine out of Hollywood Florida for the long block. There price was better then that of Doug Russel and the shipping was half the cost. Still better the engine was painted the right color so I don't have to mess with that. The fellow who owns it is a guy named Raul. Pleasent to deal with.
I will post pictures as soon as I really get going. -
Well I have got the new engine in the cockpit of the boat, and then the thunderstorms began. Next step into the engine box!!!
-
Miss Nancy,
I'm going through the same process right now on my 36SF. I have long blocks (new 350 crusaders) to swap out. I am evaluating which parts I can reuse. No one seems to sell a kit to bring a long block to a complete engine. Unfortunately I don't think I'll be able to reuse too much from the old engines. There is a ton of corrosion and age. -
I was lucky as a lot of the "externals" were all good. The only thing I really had to replace was the oil pan. try the marineengine.com web site and the crusader section, I have gotten a lot of great info from the guys there. Good luck with yours.
-
Well got the engine in the engine"room" and lined up and bolted down. Now I just need to hook everything up, with any kind of luck I hope to fire her up friday some time. Between work, crappy weather and other issues what should have been done is still in the process.
