Restoring the Lost Peal

Restoring the Lost Peal
• LostPearlLostPearl December 2010

Things are coming together now. All the rooms that were removed have been put back in but I bet I have better layout. I now have five bathrooms and next week I am hoping to order at least three new Sealand 8700 toilets, dose anyone know how good of a marine head this is or what the best one would be to use. My teaks first coat is down at last. We have put in many hundred hours to get it to this point. It will be much easier to maintain now. I will put more varnish on in the spring, or the next Tennessee warm days.

Mike I am really enjoying following the daily progress on the Pearl. You are doing a phenomenal job. You know you have arrived when your boat has more toilets than your house. In my OCD world I to do not have hobbies I have obsessions and in my world you are King.

Thanks for the compliment, but I feel more like a servant

LOL! You know that it's a big boat when you need 6 rest stops!!! Looking great!

Hi Mike, Great job !!

I've installed sealands in my last two Pacemakers and found them flawless. The commode choices are huge and I ve used the vacuum pump and tank that has the pump mounted on top of the tank.

I'm just now installing a holding tank system. Keep us up-to-date on your methods as I truely respect your creativity

I did get my shore power last week after six months and about $2,500, but it is worth every penny. Now the real work can began.
I making a bit of progress. I got in my electrical panels and I have been installing them, it will take a long time but they look great much better then the photos and are much safer. So far I have bought 3,600 feet of marine wire and will need more. I will be wiring for a long time.
I got in my three Sealand 8759 toilets, I have to say they are the nicest marine toilet/head I have ever seen. they just as big as a land toilet and you can't hear them run. Toilet paper in the toilet is no problem. I have one Raritan Atlantes I may sell or put in the front for crew. I took a photo of the two next to each other so you can see the size of each of them. After seeing how the Sealand 8759 work so great I would never have anything but a Sealand.

Here is a little photo update in the on the Lost Pearl I have so much sense my last update feel free to look at my website.

This is this old dash and it was weak with a bit of rot. I had the windows made and I had to make the boat fit the new windows, a lot of work but about done.

all three panels are on hinges and will raise for ease of installing anything.

I like the way I made the shifter in the middle and not over to the side. This will make it easier to not do dumb things. Like start in gear, I've done that more then once over the years. How about some one standing there hit the shifter. That's happened more then once also. This should help stop things like that.

The old trunk was not safe to walk on and leaked everywhere now the new one has a good slant and will not hold water.

I just past a one year mark. I have learned so much and still learning by my mistakes and from you guys online. It's not easy doing this life style Getting up each day trying to run a business. I have one to two guys working with me on the boat. I try to think what will be the thing we can work on each day that will show the most progress at the end of the day. Some days we get a lot done and others not as much, but when it comes down to it we are moving forward. It will be nice to get my windows done after waiting seven weeks for the glass just for the galley. It is just one day at a time and some work depends on the money coming in so I can buy more supplies to do more work. I just have to be careful and remember that buying things for the boat does not fix it working on it does. With some hard word work and a bit of money it will come together fast now.

Many things have changed on the lines of my boat. I was sitting around and thought I would draw a how I wanted the out side lines were to end up. I got a new 55-200 leans for my nikon d40, so I could do better photos of the lines from across the river. I traced one of my photos first then I added what I wanted her to look like.
I was trying to decide if I wanted a arch or a tree/mast, I kinda leaning toward the arch with a small mast on top of it. What do you think Do you think this will work or do I need to change something I don't want to end up on that fugly boat page with 103 foot boat.

I like the arch idea with a small mast. As an idea what about leaning forward, matching the angle from the aft end of the walk way? The difficult part I would think is maintaining the proper scale. What ever happens it has to blend with the design of the pilot house. Just my 2cents worth. She is looking great. When do we get to see pics of the forward staterooms and finish on the kitchen floor and such?

You have done fabulous work. Keep it up, she is going to be a queen of the seas when you are finished.

• miss+nancymiss nancy October 2011

Call me old school, but what about a false stack and mast? You could use the stack for storage and it would stay with more traditional lines. Regardless which you go with, she is most definatly going to be a fine looking lady when you are all done.

I attempted to show what I was refering to, I also added a "fly bridge" over the wheel house. It's a bit crude but I am not a pro with photo art. As I say, imageits just a thought.

• LostPearlLostPearl November 2011

This is what I came up with is's kinda the new with a bit of the old all in one.

Looks good! And it dresses up the wheel house as well.

I had some rain for two days but we kicked it into gear today
I will be cutting down the mast. I think it is a bit high at 10 feet

I was ask about where I am in Nashville. Google has my boat on there map, kinda cool I think

Mike she also shows, but not as well, in an older shot on Bing on Aerial view and not at all on Bird's Eye. The arch and skirt really refine and pull her together. Kudos for the creative effort and getting the scale right.

I totaly agree with cutting the height of the mast down. When I first saw it I thought what a great touch to use it. I do have to admit my second thought was the height reminded me of those fiberglass whips with a little flag they put on 4-wheelers.

Comming along nicely.
