Looking for a hatch cover for the forward hatch of a 1972 32' Convertible Sedan Bridge

I would recommend a Bomar or similar. It will be money well spent to have a good seal when dogged down.

Because of the rectangular shape, not too many production hatches will fit without major surgery to the foredeck. I THINK the Lewmar Series 54 would work. I had done some measurements in the spring to replace mine and that one was looking like the winner. But that project fell down the list.

Lewmar has an installation guide on their web site and you can get a good idea of what's involved and what to measure from there.

Of course you may be looking at $500 or so for one of those. I just can't bring myself to spend that.

At present I have one I made out of starboard. It works. It keeps the rain out and looks decent and won't rot, though there's no light or ventilation unless it's open.

When I got the boat there was some plywood disaster rotting away up there. The original was long gone.

Thanks guys, I might just try to use the old one as a mold and make a new one with fiberglass.

Murph, what did the original look like? Was it flat, did it have a built in vent? Opaque or did it let some light in? Apparently mine blew away in a hurricane in 1985 and was never seen again - so I've never seen one.

On my the deck area around the hatch has about a 1" rise and the hatch covers it and meets the deck. No vent and is flat. I'll get some photos of it the next time I go back to her.

Murph, I belive the original hatches on the 32 were simmilar to waht egg harbor used on there 33,36,etc(witch would only make sence) there is a guy on ebay selling a reprduction for egg's. Might work but I have no idea; have never measured it up. I have a bomar on my 32' that a prioious owner installed. Works well but there was obviously some serious cutting done. I plan on reworking the opening when I get to fore deck rot repair. heres the link.
